How to choose a house style for your plot
Start with how you live, then pick the look. A family that wants low upkeep and lots of daylight may lean towards modern or minimalist house styles in Pakistan, while a family that loves gatherings and privacy may prefer a courtyard or haveli layout. Your plot matters too: a narrow 5 Marla front has room for one or two strong features, whereas a 1 Kanal or 2 Kanal plot can carry columns, arches or a wide verandah without looking crowded.
Think about climate early. Flat white walls stay cooler, deep overhangs and verandahs shade windows, and pitched roofs need proper waterproofing at every joint. Some styles rely on materials that collect dust or need regular polishing, so ask your designer how each choice will age on a busy Lahore road.
- Match the style to your plot width and number of storeys
- Check your society bye-laws on height, setbacks and projections
- Consider which way the house faces and where the afternoon sun hits
- Choose materials you are happy to clean and maintain
- Look at the street so your house fits in, or stands out on purpose
From idea to drawings
Once you have a shortlist, collect five to ten renders and write one line on what you like in each. Post your project on Houseplot with your plot size, location and these references, and verified architects in Lahore will send quotes. Compare their past work in the style you want and ask how many concept options and revisions they include.
The designer usually starts with the floor plan, then develops the front elevation in 3D so you can test colours and materials before construction. When you are happy, the design is turned into working drawings and submitted for approval, so confirm the approval route with your society or approving authority at the start.
