Gutka elevation or brick tiles: which to choose
A true gutka elevation is part of the wall itself, so it never peels and gets better with age. It needs skilled masons, straight courses and clean pointing from the start. Brick tiles are lighter and quicker, and can be added to an existing house, but they depend on a good adhesive and a sound wall behind.
For an exposed brick front on a new home, many architects mix both: solid brick for the main walls and tiles for thin bands or ceilings.
- Ask for a sample panel before the full facade is laid
- Choose evenly fired bricks with matching colour
- Agree joint colour and depth in writing with the contractor
Brick house Pakistan: planning by plot size
On a 5 Marla plot, a full brick front can feel heavy, so break it with a white or grey band, a balcony or a wooden screen. On 10 Marla, brick works well as the main material with one contrasting block. On 1 Kanal, brick can wrap the whole house, softened by deep shade and greenery.
Use brick inside too: a feature wall in the lounge, a staircase core or a brick-tiled ceiling in the verandah ties the look together.
Care and climate
Brick handles Lahore heat well and hides dust better than white paint. Seal it with a clear, breathable water repellent so monsoon rain runs off without trapping damp. Wash salt marks with clean water and a soft brush, never with acid, and recheck the sealant every few years.
