About Ashiana Housing

Ashiana (also spelled Aashiyana) is the Punjab government's low-cost housing programme, launched in 2010 under then chief minister Shahbaz Sharif and run through the government-owned Punjab Land Development Company (PLDC). It was aimed at families earning under Rs20,000 a month, with ready homes sold on instalments.

In Lahore the first scheme was built at Saroba Atari, where 3,000 houses were under construction in May 2011. The later Ashiana-i-Iqbal scheme near Barki Road, planned for more than 6,000 homes on about 3,100 kanals, stalled after a contract dispute and became the subject of a NAB case that ended in acquittals in 2023.
