What makes good 2D drafting
A good drawing answers questions instead of creating them. Dimensions close properly, text does not overlap, line weights show what is cut and what is beyond, and every sheet uses the same symbols.
Layers matter too. When walls, doors, furniture, dimensions and services sit on separate, sensibly named layers, others can reuse and edit the drawing without redrawing it.
- Dimensions that add up end to end
- Clear line weights and hatching
- Consistent text and symbol styles
- Logical layer structure
- Title block with revision record
Drafting is not design
A draftsman draws what is decided. Design responsibility, structural safety and approval signatures belong to the architect and the structural engineer. If you need design decisions made, brief an architect; if you have the design and need it drawn accurately, a drafting service fits.
For approval submissions, drawings still need to be checked and signed by a PCATP-registered architect and a PEC-registered engineer where required.
Working drawings for the site
Contractors in Lahore often build from just a floor plan, guessing the rest. A proper working set gives them sections, levels, stair details, door and window sizes and services positions. It reduces mistakes and makes it easier to compare contractor quotes on equal terms.
Drafting jobs we commonly see in Lahore
Typical requests range from a single 5 marla floor plan redrawn after the owner moved a bathroom, to a full working set for a kanal house that the contractor will price from. Interior designers often need reflected ceiling plans and furniture layouts, while shop owners ask for a fit-out plan to share with their landlord or mall management.
Engineers frequently outsource drafting of reinforcement details, beam schedules and foundation layouts, keeping the design and calculations in-house. In each case, the clearer your brief, the faster the first draft arrives and the fewer revision rounds you need.
If you are not sure what to ask for, list what the drawing will be used for and who will read it: a contractor, a society office, a client or a fabricator. A good draftsman will suggest the sheets that suit that purpose.
