How to plan the dining table area on a Lahore plot
Start with how many people you seat on a normal day and how many on Eid or a family dawat. Many families size the room for daily use and keep a folding table or extendable top for big gatherings. This keeps the room comfortable rather than permanently crowded.
Ask your designer to draw the table with chairs pulled out, plus a walking path around it. If the dining sits in an open-plan lounge, mark where the sofa ends and the dining begins so that neither area eats into the other.
- Keep a direct, short route from the kitchen door to the table
- Place the crockery cabinet on a wall that is not in the serving path
- Centre the ceiling light on the table, not on the room
- Plan a socket near the table for a warmer or charger
Dining partition options that keep the space open
A dining partition is the easiest way to separate eating from sitting in a shared hall. The best ones divide visually but still let light and air through, which matters in homes where only one side gets a window.
Popular choices include CNC jaali panels in MDF or metal, vertical wooden slats, fluted glass in a slim aluminium frame, and low built-in cabinets that double as storage. Each one changes the mood: jaali feels traditional, slats feel warm and modern, glass feels light.
- Choose a see-through partition if the dining has no window of its own
- Use a half-height cabinet partition if you need extra crockery storage
- Match the partition finish to door frames or ceiling trims for a tidy look
Lighting, finishes and upkeep
A dining room needs layered light: a main fitting over the table on a dimmer, soft cove light in the gypsum ceiling, and a little accent light inside the crockery cabinet. During load-shedding a single UPS-backed point over the table keeps dinner going without lighting the whole house.
For tabletops, sealed marble and solid wood age well but need coasters and a quick wipe after meals. Fabric chairs look elegant but pick darker or washable covers, because curry and chai stains are a fact of family life.
