About Muslim Town
Muslim Town is an old neighbourhood and union council of Lahore on the bank of the canal, in Samanabad Tehsil. It was founded in 1915 by Dr Syed Muhammad Hussain, Chief Chemical Examiner of Punjab, who bought farmland along the canal and had it planned. It was first called 'Islamabad' and renamed Muslim Town on Allama Iqbal's suggestion.
It has two parts. Old Muslim Town has mostly small houses and many student hostels. New Muslim Town, developed on land the LDA later acquired, has larger houses and three blocks: A (housing), B (industrial) and C (semi-industrial). It is fully built up.
