Flat rents in Lahore in October 2026 ran from roughly Rs32,000 a month for a 1-bedroom in Johar Town to about Rs2 lakh for a 2-bedroom in Gulberg. The building, its meters and its maintenance arrangements matter as much as the rent, so check them before you pay any advance.

Where flats are found in Lahore

Lahore was long a city of houses and portions, but apartment stock has grown. A 2021 Profit report placed older, smaller flats on Ferozepur Road, at Firdous Market, Ghalib Market, Ichhra and on Jail Road. It described Askari apartments across the city as costlier and mainly used by end-users, and newer towers in Gulberg.

The same report found demand strongest among young couples, students and single professionals, who preferred one-bedroom units. Families more often rent portions or small houses.

Today the main flat-rental pockets are:

  • Gulberg, Lahore's business district, with newer towers and serviced units.
  • Askari 10 and Askari 11, which have apartment blocks alongside houses.
  • Johar Town, with smaller flats over commercial blocks and in mid-rise buildings.
  • Older inner-city flats around Ichhra, Ferozepur Road and Jail Road.

Rents have climbed fast. In June 2026, The Express Tribune reported a Gulberg tenant whose flat rose from Rs45,000 to over Rs80,000 in two years, pushing her to a cheaper area. Profit noted in July 2026 that some flats had nearly doubled over two years, and that tenants were moving out to LDA Avenue, Raiwind Road, Jubilee Town and Bahria Orchard.

What drives flat rent

  • Location and building age. Gulberg towers cost more than older flats in mixed-use markets.
  • Bedrooms and floor. Lifts, backup power and parking matter more on higher floors.
  • Meters. Newer projects often give each unit separate electricity, gas and water meters. Older buildings often share them, per the Tribune report, and some landlords charge fixed amounts regardless of use.
  • Maintenance charges. Ask whether service charges are included in the rent or billed separately.
  • Furnishing. Furnished units rent for more, but our data does not track them separately.

Checks before you rent a flat

  1. See the owner's title. Ask for the sale deed, allotment letter or society transfer letter, and the owner's CNIC. If an agent or relative signs, ask for a valid power of attorney.
  2. Check the building's status. Ask whether the building has a completion certificate. In January 2026 the LDA said it would stop issuing completion certificates to commercial buildings without a Civil Defence fire NOC (Bloom Pakistan). Many flats sit in commercial buildings.
  3. Walk the fire exits. Look for working stairs, alarms and extinguishers, and a generator or lift backup.
  4. Read the meters. Note opening readings and how shared gas and water bills are split.
  5. Agree the deposit in writing. The Tribune report found Lahore landlords commonly asking for two to four months' rent as deposit and advance, with deductions for repainting and repairs on exit.

The paperwork

The Punjab Rented Premises Act 2009 says premises may be let only through a written tenancy agreement, which the landlord presents to the Rent Registrar (s. 5). The agreement should state the term, rent, rate of increase, due date, and any advance or security (s. 6). If no due date is written, rent is due by the tenth of the following month (s. 7). Subletting needs the landlord's written consent (s. 11).

The Act sets no cap on deposits or yearly increases, so both must be negotiated.

The tenancy must also be registered with police under the Punjab Information of Temporary Residents Act 2015. Lahore Police say registration is free at a police station or Police Khidmat Markaz, takes 15–20 minutes and needs:

Document Who provides
CNIC original and copy Owner
CNIC original and copy Tenant
Rent agreement, original and copy Both
Affidavit Owner/tenant
Photograph Tenant

Red flags

  • An "owner" who cannot show title or a power of attorney.
  • A demand for several months' advance in cash with no receipt.
  • No written agreement, or a refusal to register the tenant with police.
  • Shared meters with no written split of bills.
  • Locked or blocked fire exits.
