Plumbing is one of the few trades in a house that you only notice when it goes wrong. A badly sloped drain, a cheap fitting hidden inside a wall, or a tank with no cleaning access can cost far more to fix later than it did to install. This guide explains what plumbers in Lahore do, how to compare them, and what to check before you pay.
Requesting quotes here is free. Plumbing contractors who see your request send their own prices, and you choose whom to call.
What plumbing work covers in Lahore
Most Lahore houses rely on a mix of supply sources: a municipal or society water line, a private bore or motor, an underground tank and an overhead tank. Hot water usually comes from a gas or electric geyser. Waste water goes through floor traps and drains to a sewer line run by WASA in city areas, or by the housing society's own system in many private schemes.
A plumber's job touches every part of that chain. Some plumbers do small repairs only. Plumbing contractors take on full installations for new houses or renovations, usually with a small team.

How to choose a plumber
There is no single licence that every plumber in Lahore must hold, so you judge on evidence rather than a certificate alone.
- For larger jobs, ask about the firm behind the plumber. If a plumbing contractor is part of a building contract, ask whether the main contractor or their engineer is registered with the Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC), and check the registration yourself on PEC's own website.
- See recent work. Ask for two or three addresses or photos of jobs at the same stage as yours, especially the pipe layout before plastering.
- Ask what they will test and how. A competent plumber will offer to pressure-test supply lines and water-test drains before walls and floors are closed.
- Check how they handle materials. Clarify whether you buy the pipes and fittings or they do. If they buy, ask for the bills.
- Look for standard-marked products. The Pakistan Standards and Quality Control Authority (PSQCA) runs a certification mark scheme and a list of items that must meet Pakistan Standards (PSQCA). Ask your supplier whether the pipes or fittings you are buying are covered and certified.
How pricing usually works
Plumbing in Lahore is priced in a few common ways. Ask each provider which one they use so you can compare like with like.
| Pricing basis | Typical use | What to confirm |
|---|---|---|
| Per point | New installations (each tap, WC, shower, floor trap or geyser connection counts as a point) | What counts as one point, whether pipe runs are included |
| Lump sum | Whole house or a full bathroom | Exact drawing or list of points, materials included or not |
| Per visit plus parts | Repairs and small jobs | Call-out charge, whether diagnosis is free if you go ahead |
| Per job | Tank cleaning, drain clearing, geyser fitting | Tank size or drain length, access difficulty |
| Daily labour | Ongoing work managed by you | Number of workers, working hours, who supplies tools |
What moves the price:
- Pipe type and fitting quality (PPR, uPVC, CPVC or GI, and the brand tier you choose)
- Number of bathrooms, kitchens and floors
- Concealed versus surface-mounted pipework
- Access: breaking and re-plastering walls, cutting floors, roof work
- Distance to the main sewer or supply line
- Whether testing, cleaning and a warranty period are included
We do not publish plumbing rates here because they change with material prices and the scope of each job. Get at least two or three written quotes using the same list of points.
From request to completion
- Describe the job. Note the type of work, number of bathrooms or points, house size, area of Lahore and any photos of the problem.
- Receive quotes. Plumbing contractors review your request and respond with a price and approach.
- Site visit. For anything beyond a small repair, ask for a visit before a final price.
- Agree scope in writing. List points, pipe type, who buys materials, testing, clean-up and payment stages.
- Work and inspection. For new work, inspect and photograph the pipes before walls or floors are closed.
- Testing. Watch the pressure test on supply lines and a water test on drains.
- Handover. Collect a simple sketch or photos of where concealed pipes run, plus any product warranty cards.
Red flags
- A price given over the phone for a full house without seeing drawings or the site
- Refusing to pressure-test or saying testing "isn't needed"
- Asking for full payment before work starts
- Mixing pipe types or brands without telling you
- No slope check on drains, or floor traps fixed level with the floor
- Running hot-water lines in pipe that is not rated for hot water
- Venting a gas geyser into a closed space or not venting it at all
FAQs
How do I find a reliable plumber in Lahore? Ask for recent work at the same stage as yours, insist on written quotes with the same scope, and choose someone who offers pressure and drain testing. Post a free request to receive quotes from plumbing contractors.
Should I buy the plumbing materials myself? Either works. Buying yourself gives you control over brand and quality; letting the contractor buy can be simpler. If the contractor buys, ask for itemised bills and check them against what is fitted.
What is "per point" pricing? Each outlet or connection, such as a tap, shower, WC, floor trap or geyser connection, is counted as a point. Confirm whether the pipe run to each point is included in the price.
When should plumbing be done in a new house? Supply and drain pipes go in during the grey structure, before plaster and flooring. Fixtures such as mixers, WCs and basins are fitted at the finishing stage.
Who handles the municipal water or sewer connection? In WASA areas the connection is applied for through WASA; new water connections are also offered at e-Khidmat Markaz centres in Lahore (PITB). In private societies, the society's maintenance office usually handles it. Your plumber does the work on your side of the connection.
How often should water tanks be cleaned? Clean whenever the water looks cloudy, smells or leaves sediment, and set a regular routine with your plumber. Ask to see the tank before and after cleaning.
